Asghar Mehdi Ashar (born 12 October 1973, Karachi, Pakistan) is a Pakistani Canadian Professional Engineer and literary personality who is not only a critique but also a scholar of the Urdu language. After obtaining his Bachelors of Engineering degree from N.E.D. University in Karachi, Pakistan, he acquired his Executive MBA, Masters in Management Sciences Degree from University of Waterloo, Canada. He also completed his Certification on Management Development from Richard Ivey, School of Business, University of Western Ontario. Ashar is working as an Executive in a Canadian multinational Engineering manufacturing organization. Contribution Although, Asghar Mehdi Ashar is a Professional Engineer by profession who has worked in several countries and managed various businesses and projects within USA, Holland, Germany, Canada, Pakistan and other countries, his work in Urdu literature is commendable as well. His work in rejuvenating marsiya and resai adab in modern era is significant. His first two books was released in Pakistan in 2019 and various projects are at work including couple of projects on resai Adab with Government of Pakistan. Although, his writing career is in initial stage, the reviews on his writing, research and blunt critique has earned him a lot of respect with his seniors and his peers. He also developed a website www.emarsiya.com that now includes more than 4000 complete marsiyas of more than 300 marsiya nigar. The word emarsiya is first used by Asghar Mehdi Ashar to digitalize marsiya hence the name of his website as well His recent book Farhang e Anees is first ever dictionary of Marsiya released by Urdu Dictionary Board, Pakistan His First book “Farogh e Marsiya, Ik Naye Azm Ki Ibteda” is called a master piece and new fresh breeze of writing in Resai Adab His latest book Farhang e Dabeer is first ever farhang written in 150 years covering all marasi of Mriza Dabeer Asghar Mehdi is a Marsiya Khwan who has recorded more than 100 marsiyas of Anees, Dabeer and others in his voice. He has released three volumes in Pakistan and India and his work in this regard has given another life to Teht ul Lafz Marsiya Khwani.
